Maricar Daquiao

Maricar Daquioag, also known as Mai, holds a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology and has nearly two decades of professional experience in the field. She has worked with non-governmental organizations, private institutions, and government agencies on the establishment and implementation of coastal resource and habitat management in several Marine Key Biodiversity Areas (MKBAs) in the Philippines.
As part of scientific teams, she has contributed to ridge-to-reef habitat profiling and characterization, conducting ground surveys for species identification and habitat assessments across mangroves, seagrass, and coral reefs. She has also prepared technical reports, participated in community feedback and outreach programs, and provided technical assistance as a resource person in marine camps, educating fishermen, students, and youth on responsible resource use and conservation.
Beyond fieldwork and reporting, Maricar engages with coastal communities to learn local practices in resource management and sustainable exploitation. Her work is driven by a commitment to promoting healthy, productive, and clean marine environments for both current communities and future generations.
